Tire and rim size for 8N

I had to order a new rear rim for my 8N. Since the tire that was on it is a 12.4-28 tire I ordered a 12 x 28 rim. Sounds logical. The rim I received is is what I ordered but is much wider than the one I replaced. This is fine with me since I have to get a new tire anyway as long as the new tire and rim will fit and clear everything on my 8N. I really don t care if one tire is wider than the other as long as it isn t taller. Is this going to work?

Rim and tire size for the N's were spec'd at 10 x 28. They measure them both different today thus a 10 x 28 is the same as the 11.2 x 28. Rim size is 9 x 28 as measured from the inside. They measure for the outside now thus the confusion. A 10" rim is what is needed for an 11.2 x 28 tire. A 12" rim is too wide for an 11.2 or 12.4 x 28 tire. Return and get the right 10" size.

Rim is too wide for tire It will effect the height. Note both tires are 11.2 Brand new tire on left was mounted on new
too wide rim.

Indeed, 8N rear rims were/are 9" inside bead lip to inside bead lip as conventionally measured.

This is the correct rim size for 10/11.2X28 tire.

OP's 12" rim, if measured correctly from inside bead lip to inside bead lip, is 3" too wide.

Just to make sure I m getting this through my thick scull before order another rim let me ask the question this way.

What size rim do I order for a Ford 8N with 12.4-28 tires on the rear?

Thanks!

10" rims (measured in the conventional inside bead to inside bead way) are appropriate for 12.4 tires.

This is 1" oversized for an 8N but so are the 12.4 tires.

Whut Dean said... You can use a 10 are a 11 but a 12 is to wide for your tar...
