Working on a recently purchased 8n that was missing oil breather and tube. go a new breather and ordered tube from Steiner. It is "chrome" and I cannot figure out how it installs. Seems to be much to long to fit in behind exhaust etc. Any help is appreciated. Bob

crankcase fill/breather tube on 8N is not on same side of engine as exhaust, so I have no idea what you are talking about.

i assume u are talking about the oil bath air filter and S-shaped tube that goes from it to the carb. that setup is not user-friendly to begin with. be sure u have the oil bath cleaner itself installed properly.

can u post a pic?

sorry if I used the wrong term I am talking about the tube that goes from the carb to the air cleaner (oil bath)

sorry about picture. It is on its side. first time posting a picture. Looks like the tube is about and inch and half too long.

It's a tight fit.

The tube must be bent right in order to fit.

It's a bit of a chore to install correctly. Suggest buying new rubber connector hoses.

I remove the carburetor to facilitate installation.

I agree with Dean. It's essential that you use new hoses when trying to install that thing. It helps to grease the ends of the tube. When the hoses are new you can slide them all the way on both ends or the tube. Then when you get the tube in place slide the hoses onto the air cleaner and carb. Last time I did it, I didn't have to remove anything. I had just installed a new manifold and I needed to retorque the manifold nuts after the initial running and heating up. Of course that tube is in the way of the manifold nut and has to be removed.

The pipe as shown is already tight against the exhaust and would never fit on the carb with our without a hose. I bought new hoses also but there is no way that the hose will fit the way the pipe is now.

From the looks of that chrome pipe, it's obviously an aftermarket part. How does it look when you lay the stock pipe on top of it.

If the aftermarket pipe is too long or not shaped right then you're just out of luck.

Looks like you might be trying to install it up side down. The carburetor end is very short, cut at a slight angle, and the air filter end is longer, with a square-cut end. Use new rubber tubes and hose clamps. zuhnc
