after several starts and stops today starter quit working.Battery seems fine. charged overnite. All I hear a a faint clicking when starter button pushed.Cleaned terminals. Tried jumping with existing 6v .Negative directly to terminal on starter. Starter did nothing. The solenoid for this tractor is on the tractor body rather than on top of starter. It seems like I may be needing a new starter. if so , is the one solon this site advertised as 6v or 12v PK .

welcome to YT :)

a 9N did not come from the factory with a solenoid. could u post some pics of what you've got?

Chilidog. If you have jumped from the negitive post of the battery to the starter post and have nothing.I would remove the brush cover band and see if the brushes are worn down and not touching the armature. The starter may just need new brushes. You could try tapping the starter with a hammer while jumping it to see if that will make it run.You could replace the brushes your self if you have a big soldiering iron,or have it rebuilt at a local auto electric shop.A OEM rebuilt starter is much better than a new over seas unit

In addition to what Den N said, to answer your other question, all the starters for the N series are 6 volt. Those that convert to 12 volt retain the 6 volt starter. But do try to keep your OEM starter working.

if i have to get a new starter , is the 6v/12v one sold on this site OK ? I want to support this site if possible .
