2N head torque-2 questions

1) More proper torque sequence? There are 2 drawings to be found; 1 shows the center front as being #7, the other as being #17. Which one to use or does it matter?

2) The spark plug wire protection tube fits over that front center. How to get at it to torgue it?

3) (ok, I said 2 questions) The brackets for the plug wire tube and the throttle linkage fit under the head studs. Doesn't seem right.

To add to whut Dan said...

Take a sheet of paper lay it flat on your desk...

Take the palm of both hands and press down near both outer edges the paper will move up in the middle...

That's why you start from the center and work your way out to keep the gasket flat and not buckle in the middle...

Yes, the sequence matters. These heads flex a bit so you want to torque it so it presses down on the head gasket evenly. To torque the head bolt with the wiring tube, the correct Ford head bolt/spark plug tool that was included with every new tractor is invaluable. You can find them on ebay all the time for just a few bucks and is shaped so you can do this with the hood in place. Unfortunately, you would then have to use the German torque rating of "good-n-tite" but these tractors are pretty forgiving. (Note - put a bit of grease in between the bolt head/nut and wiring "foot" to help keep from bending the thin metal foot all to heck when you torque those bolts down). Lastly - I used slightly longer head studs on the ones that you mount the throttle linkage to.

2. if the hood is in place, i was told to use a crow's foot wrench at the end of the torque wrench.

3. no, that's right. the brackets are held in place by the head studs.
