Opinion on ford 8n

Hey guys, I was just looking at a ford 8n tractor. It ran smooth, and drove great. He doesn t know what if anything has been done to the engine, but he switched it over to 12 volt when he got it. The paint wasn t very good but overall pretty good. How much do you think it s worth? He wanted 2300 at the lowest, but I turned him down. What do you guys think?

Hope that guy likes it, he's gonna have it
awhile at that price. Be lucky to get near
a grand at auction here. I agree with
Ultra, $2300 should buy you a real tractor
with useable features such as live
hydraulics and PTO.

Too high... I bought my 2N for 1700 with 3 new tires a brush hog and a blade, the only two implements I needed.

Depends on your location but sounds high to me, I paids 1600.00 for 51 8n with two new rear tires, new battery, alt. and starter and rear seals and brakes.

I see lot's of these N's that get the wheels and tin removed then a pretty paint job . Maybe and oil change and tune up , then it gets labelled as restored . Many of the ones I see have zero working hours after the paint job . At a minimum I would start a tractor and drive it to see if it smokes , has power , stalls , weird transmission noises , hydraulics work , etc .

Personally I would look for one that looked OK with older paint . It would be money ahead to spend a little more now on a good worker than to fix one up or pay for someones fancy paint job that is probably going to need some major work in the near future .

Location and tire condition pretty much dictate the price now days.
Unfortunately, the tires cost as much as the tractor in many locations.
15-20 years ago, that would have sold overnight at $2300 Not now.
In this area, around $1500 if all the tires and rims are good.

Put a decent load on the 3pt before paying $1500.

A good 8N provides decent utility, but it's no work horse these days. More of a gentleman's putt-putt with a little light work tossed in.
