Gas bowl no gas clean tank

O.k. I'm first to admit, I'm no mechanic. Because my 9N looses power under load, I decided to drain the gas tank. I took off the glass bowl and valve and blew air through the whole deal put in a new gasket and screen and re installed. Please note, gas just poured out of the hole to the tank. Now, reinstalled, no gas in the bowl. No matter where I turn the valve. Could this be a bad valve? I even tried turning the engine thinking it might get things going. Nothing. I know, it's probably something stupid but, please read above about "no mechanic" Thanks for any help offered.

With the bowl installed, you will not get fuel flow until the float in the carb opens the valve. remove drain in bottom of carb to drain the carb bowl.

If you get no fuel flow with the glass bowl removed and valve open two turns, you have blockage in the valve itself.

and yes, the tank is not clean. There is a blockage where the sediment bowl screws on.
Otherwise you would have really good flow. Has to be a blockage at the indentation where the bowl fits to the tank.

How much gas is in the tank & how far did you turn the valve? If not much gas you need to turn all the way open for the "reserve".

I would like to understand how that reserve works on Fords? Any sedimate bowels I have worked with only have Shut and open and if there a little stand pipe or
filter in the tank the bottom gas does not all come out. Only reserve I have is when your walking back to get a gas can. Once in a while if you can get back
level off a hill you can make it go again.???Cleddy

the valve on these is a dual valve. there are two pickups. the stand pipe, which accesses all but the last inch or so of gas in the tank, is the main pickup. it's opened by turning the valve two full turns.

at the base of that stand pipe is the reserve pickup, and it is accessed by opening the valve all the way. the catch is, it's probably plugged and useless :x
