OT: question for the carb gurus update

the TSX-464 is rebuilt and back in service, and lo and behold, the WD lives again. my amateur guess is that giant tear in the main body gasket was the culprit. thanks for the input :)

for some reason, the new throttle shaft slid thru the first side of the body fine, but would not go into the far side, so i ended up reusing the old shaft. any idea if this is a common issue?

Glad to hear you got it up and running!

On the shaft, "any idea if this is a common issue?". Yes it is common.
Shaft has been re-used so many times the hole and shaft are both
oblong to fit each other instead of being round like the new shaft.

I've seen people say the carb kits come with "unnecessary parts
like the shafts" and this is the result of that line of thinking.
It'll work, but the little bit of wobble from the shaft not being
true will speed up the wear of the seals at the other end.

You've got it back together and running. If it works, I say run it.
If it needs to be re-done in the future, I would align the holes, bore
them straight and put bushings in them so the new, round, shaft
fits and seals as it should. Big deal? Probably not for your use.
As I said, I'd run it as-is and do it different next time.
