9N transmission or clutch issues?

Hi, I'm having some problems with my 9n. My girlfriend was driving it in 1st gear and there was a large clunk in the area of the Transmission or differential. The Tractor will start and run fine, but when the clutch is released it dies like its under a heavy load. It does this even in neutral. I've tried with the PTO on and off and have the same issues. The tractor was running fine yesterday, no issues. Its been in the 70's all week so it can't be ice. This is the 3 speed without the high/low range. It this a clutch issue or a transmission issue. Its spring and I don't want to waste time chasing the wrong problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

if it starts and you can push the clutch in and then put it in gear and then letting the clutch out kills the motor something in the trans or diff has gone wrong , you might take the top off the trans and make sure its not locked in two gears at the same time , someone on here with be able to help

Thank's, I'll give it a shot. Its weird was just driving smoothly then clunk and nothing. I think the diff is good because we were able to push it home and no funny noises from the rear end.

If it was my Tractor I would be removing the TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION...

You say it pushes fine? Does the shifter move and feel like it is shifting gears? What position is the shifter in when you pushed it?

So, it ended up being a really easy fix. The aluminum tab that holds the shifting linkage had snapped causing the transmission to get stuck in two gears at once. A simple weld and its good. I'm glad I didn't need to pull the whole thing apart, just the inspection cover on top of the transmission.

Had my 2N hang in two gears shortly after purchase. Found the shifter pin, under the boot, had worn to a thin blade on one side and was gone completely on the other. The towers slot that guides the pin was badly worn as well. The tower was a stinker to remove for repair as it is shares real estate with the steering.
