Jubilee clutch

It's a long sad story but the short version is that my 1953 Jubilee sat outdoors in Indiana for a year and a half. I just got it back, but the clutch is seized in the disengaged mode. I Haven't started the engine yet but if I do, how do I free up the clutch? Does this mean I'll have to split the tractor?...Oh I hope not.
thanks,
Andy

Andy,Have you had it started with it in neutral? If so the way I have broke the clutch loose is either have someone pull you to start it with trans. in a higher gear, and when it starts hit the brakes repeatedly with the clutch pedal held down till it breaks loose, the reason you hold the clutch down when doing this is so you will know when it breaks loose, a little safer method I have used is to tow it to a little hill and put it in gear and start it by coasting,(you can engage the starter as you're coasting),as soon as it starts again have the clutch in and hit the brakes hard to break the clutch loose, you can drive around without having to worry about hitting the tow vehicle.

If it's in gear, it's not going to roll down hill very well, the clutch is stuck and the starter button is locked out. If it's in neutral, holding the clutch down and standing on the breaks will just bring it to a stop. Pull starting it could be trouble if the pull vehicle can't get out of the way. What I did, is clipped a jumper wire to the small terminal on the solenoid, got on the tractor put it in gear, key on and touched the other end of the wire to ground. If you get in trouble, and can't break the clutch loose, just turn the key off.

Jim and Mike, I have a very steep hill right in front of my place [I live in the Berkshire Hills of MA]. If I pull the Jubilee out there, slip it into third gear with ignition on, release the brakes, I'm pretty sure it will start rolling down the hill, which should start the engine, and then I can pump the brakes to try and release the clutch. Is that right? Or am I missing something? Andy

Andrus,You say, slip it into third gear with ignition on, release the brakes,
Get a insulated wire with a clip on both end and hook it to the screw at the bottom of the thumb starter switch that will engage the starter when the other end of the wire is grounded ,just touch it and remove it when it starts to the cover or a unpainted spot.Turn ignition on and be ready.1/2 throttle and clutch depressed then stomp on the brakes on and off.Keep stomping on the brakes till the clutch pops loose. BE SAFE!
