Golden Jubilee: Please help! Many ignorant questions

Hello. My husband and I bought a jubilee about 6 years ago. At the time, it was running fine other than needing a jump every once in a while. Over the years, it needed miscellaneous work from a mechanic, and ran fine most of the time. Almost 2 years ago, it died while mowing and it's been sitting ever since. We can't get it to a mechanic (no trailer, and we live in the boonies), but I've had some friends who supposedly knew their stuff out to try to fix it. When it first died, the engine would turn over but never catch (forgive my lack of proper terminology; I know absolutely nothing about any kind of automobiles). One friend thought it was fuel not getting through and suggested a new carburetor, which we bought, and said friend never returned. Another friend has been out and felt carb was not the issue, but that it simply needed a new coil. He put in a new coil, but still, motor/engine wouldn't catch. He adjusted the old carb and if holding the throttle, he was able to get the engine to catch, but as soon as he let up on the throttle, it died. Somehow, no one had ever checked the oils until then, when it was discovered that, while the tractor was sitting for that 1.5 years, it had flooded. We didn't realize the water had gotten up as high as the tractor, but all oil reservoirs were filled with mostly water, some oil. Friend advised that we drain all oils and replace them (from 3 different drain plugs; he showed me where to drain). We did that and that's where I am now, but I can't figure out what all 3 drain plugs are for. Obviously there's the motor oil and hydraulic/transmission oil, but what is the plug in between them? I assume the engine oil is up front and hydraulic in the rear; I find one reference to a gear fluid, but can't be sure that's what it is. When drained, that fluid was milky white, by the way. We are going to change out the carburetor as well, since friend was having trouble getting it adjusted properly. I'm hoping someone has some advice for us. We would be forever grateful to get this thing going again! Thanks in advance, Sarah

Get a copy of the owners manual - here is a freebie you can download. Cut and [ost it into the address bar of your browser. Links to that site are blocked on this forum so after you paste it into the address bar you need to remove the hyphen at the beginning of the N Tractor Club portion to get a valid URL. Fluid fill and drain points (four) can be found on pages 88-89. Sounds like all you need is some fresh fluids and someone that actually knows a little something about old iron to get it running.

Was editing my earlier post and most of it dropped off!! I too have a Jubilee that is my main bush hog tractor!! If it sat under water, lots of gremlins can creep into about everything!! Y'all aren't in Brown County, IN are you?

Sarah,Are you located near Northern,Il.? Sometimes it's just a simple fix,I have lots of experience with Jubilees and Ford tractors in general and would be glad to help you out.70+ and looking for things to keep me young.E-mail is open.

"the engine would turn over" (The engine Cranks over)
Cranks = the mechanical action of the starter cranks the engine over.

"but never catch" ("but never start)
Start = The engine fires up runs on its on.

The engine cranks over but will not start : )

Don't be ashamed I talk to seasoned mechanics they struggle with this terminology also...

Thank you! We all have our specialties, and anything mechanical is not my specialty:) Thanks for not making me feel stupid!

hi sarah, ive had a jubilee for 30 years, its a using tractor, there are 4 drain plugs on the jubilee, the engine, fill with engine oil, i use 15-40 shell, [ made for diesel trucks] , the transmission, fill with 80-90 wt gear oil, the hydraulic system , fill with hydraulic 134 oil, and the differential, again 80-90 wt gear oil, the engine fill is located on the right side under the breather cap, it twists slightly and pull up to remove, you will also want to clean the mesh in that with something carb cleaner worsk great, the air cleaner should be cleaned too as its probably full of water or goo, un clip the clips on the bottom of the canister on the left side by the key switch it should have oil in it, clean the cup and refill with engine oil up to the line, then re attach the cup. the transmission s filled thru the big hex headed plug on top of the transmission by the gear shift, there is another hex headed bolt behind the clutch peddle on the left side of the tractor, remove it and fill until the gear lube runs out that hole in the side, hydraulic system is filled thru another hex headed plug on top of the hydraulic system under the seat, it has a dipstick on the right side of the tractor by the running board, rear end is filled thru the big hex plug on top of it by the upper link attachment point for the 3 point hitch, there is a small plug on the left side of the differential its a 4 sided pipe plug, remove it and fill the rear end until fluid runs out the hole , as to fuel, it sounds like its not getting enough, dont be afraid to dive in there the system is pretty simple, take the gas line off at the carb, then turn on the shut off valve under the gas take with the glass bowl and see if you get a steady stream about the size of a pencil, post back and well go from there

Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful. We will get this tractor running again someday, thanks to all of you! Sarah
