Howard vs. Sherman

Which one is better for slow tasks
requiring the PTO? I know the sherman
affects the pto and the howard doesn't, but
the sherman is much more plentiful and
stronger. Anyone have 2 cents to add?

520 ,A Howard is best for slow speeds if the PTO RPMs need to remain @520.As you say the Sherman will also increase in high range and decrease in low range. Here is a good site from John Smith that he put together on auxiliary transmissions explaining them.

Depends on what your Task is. Running a burr mill off a flat belt then the sherman. Running a backhoe off the pto than the sherman. Running a tiller off the pto than a howard or an everett trans. Think about your overall use if you bought a howard, which is considerably more then the combo, how many times would you use it,just to till your small garden once a year? If you bought a sherman combo, I'm not sure what you are putting it, but if it's an 8n you would probably be slipping it in low range every time you want to back up. Both transmissions are good and can be a useful tool so why not get both? What makes you think the sherman is stronger? I have seen misused shermans with broken teeth. My 2 cents
