9n wiring trouble

I have recently replaced all the wiring on my 6v 9n, the previous wiring had shorted out. I used JMORs diagram and referenced my FO-4 manual to make sure i got it right. I also got rid of an alternative push button starter that the previous owner had installed. I now an using the original neutral safety switch. After i replaced everything i depressed the button and the engine attempted to turn over, success! or so i thought. i put the hood back, fresh gas, new oil and filter. I opened up the gas and attempted to turn it over. Nothing. ammeter reads just under 10. Any suggestions on where to look next? thanks for all the help everyone.

Stinger,If you have a generator the cutout could be stuck draining the battery. Disconnect the wire to the generator cutout ,charge the battery and try the starting it again.

My Nine N will act like this occasionally, and I shift it in and out of gear then it will be fine. The safety mechanical lock gets hung up. If that fails, then I test the actual switch, in front of the instrument panel at the bottom, one wire comes from the battery and the other goes off to the starter. One time after trying these two things I still couldn?t get it to turn over, so I traced the wire to the starter, and found that the bolt connection had loosened up just enough to not make contact.
It would be easy to bump the shifter while reassembling the hood, so I would try moving it in and out of neutral and see if it turns over then.

Good luck!

Get out your multimeter. Start with the most likely cause of your problem: a dead battery.

You should see 6.35 volts on a fully charged battery. At 5.95 v, it's dead.

You may have found out why the P.O. had bypassed the OEM button. that button pushes on a shaft that in turn closes the contacts on the starter switch. Some of the guys on here have pulled that shaft out and welded a washer or nut on the end of it to extend a little. Have you tried jumping the posts on the switch with a screwdriver of something? It could also be the switch itself.
