water pump delima/choice/decision

I have a water pump replacement in my future. I have two pumps from previous engines
on the parts shelf, one with a six blade fan. Neither seem to have play in the shafts.
These came from junked engines where they worked. Been shelved for less than 12 years.
Would you use one of these or buy modern day remanufactured at appx $50. Does sitting
around on a shelf hurt these things, I hate to do this twice?

Personally I would pass on the "modern" and get Will Kellogg in Arizona to rebuild one or get the right parts from him and do it myself. I did that with a '54 International pump and he walked me through the process.

for starters, fill your pumps with water and see if they weep at the shaft when you spin it.

I have an old tight GM pump that I keep, like yours on the shelf, I keep it moisture free and lubed and spin it every now and then.

does anyone know the original stud bolt size, anticipating having to replace with
something a little longer, recommendations?
