I don't know if its just my location but it seems like there several 8n tractors for under 1000 around here. have then gone down that much.

Yes, in my area you can get a running driving 8n for $800/$1000. And old tractor prices are get worse not better. Don't think it will ever turn around.

Here too.
If I had to guess, old Fords of all types are down $1000-$1500 from what they were 10-15 years ago.
A lot of it has to do with the fact that people who didn't grow up with points and carburators just don't know how to work on them. And they sure as heck don't "get" 6 volts.
It's just easier to buy a Yawnmar, Mahindrance or Kaputa and make a payment.
Another thing is the internet has educated people about tractors. Generally folks understand the desirability of having a 3 point hitch. What the internet has done is teach them that a 3 point is only half of it. Options like live hydraulics, live pto, power steering, more gears and diff lock are just as important as a 3 point hitch.

I bought a 51 8N in October for $900. Brought it home and bushogged with it for 5 1/2 hours the next day. Has some warts that need to be worked out but runs good.

Watched 2 sell at auction several weeks ago both ran $450.00 for 1 and $525.00 for the other. The 525.00 had tires in it around 2 years old. I did pick up a couple of Ford plows and a 3 point disk for $12.50 each. All are headed for China by now.

They also come with a mower , back blade , trailer , 4 wheel drive , and a loader . One monthly payment , add fuel and go .

Around here a small tractor , like an N is nice for a 5 - 10 acre area . A tractor for $1500 is not that great of a deal if you have to figure out a way to haul it home , then go buy a $1000 mower , then fix that tire with a slow leak , then figure out why the charging system doesn't work .......

They still sell for $3500 if it has a mower , looks perfect , great tires , runs perfect , and you deliver .

P.S. A lot of the younger generation do not know how to check the power steering fluid on their truck , much less change a pump .

Now they like to finance a new Kubota with loader, tiller, disk, box blade, packer, Great Plains 4 ft no till drill, new trailer to haul it with new truck with lift kit so they can plant 1/4 acre of turnips to hunt with a crossbow. About $75,000 dollars to hunt a field rat. Then tell their girlfriend they can't come up with the down payment on the house.

On the plus side, they've become very inexpensive power. I'll let guys with larger wallets play with their ATVs. I like my old Fords.

Bingo, Kirk.

The antique tractor market (with a few exceptions, that have not YET succumbed) has completely collapsed and will not come back.

Vintage Fords held out longer as users than most due to parts availability and three point hitches but no young folks are buying vintage Fords as workers these days.

Yes, you will still be able to get service parts for many years but very few folks are commercially parting tractors anymore and CNH is aggressively dumping parts support for vintage Fords.

If you've got 'em, sell 'em, folks.

n prices reflect the condition of the tractor, lots of people know what a n is, and can either handle their shortcomings, or for a grand more can move up to a hundred series or even a thousand series on occasion, that being said ive seen 500 dollar n's around, but you dont want them, most n buyers intend to use the tractor, not show it, they are looking for a turn key unit that may or may not need a few finishing touches, ie bald rear tires they'll pass, bald or wrong fronts they can fix for a few hundred now, throwing a implement with it and they'll spring for one that isnt perfect, out here they still bring around 3500 for a great running, ready to work, looks good, [ at least at 30 feet] tractor there are many still around here in work clothes still working

I got decent money for my restored 901 last fall, but the guy bought it as a lawn ornament for his business as opposed to a worker, LOL. Despite all that I had done on it all he really cared about was the paint.

Seems like by me (NE OH), most people think their 8Ns are the cream of the crop and are selling for what deem way to much. The more I see them, the more I think I got a great deal on mine at just the right time.

Sorry, I know the initial post was lamenting the prices on these tractors, and I guess MY point was that they what I consider high by me. So either folks truly believe they are worth that much or just really want some money out of them.
I agree otherwise that it's easier to make a payment on a new tractor, which they then sell on craiglist because they don't need or want it anymore even though they just got it.

TraktorFreunde, you are mistaking advertising for selling. The thread stated as transaction price as opposed to advertised price.
