Need Help to Identify 801 Series

Hello all.

I need some help identifying this tractor. Decals says 801 as does the seller. I told him to look for the stamp but not much luck.

The shifter says 5 speed to me so 851 or 861. I’m hoping for the latter. Any way to tell if live PTO without the stamp? Extra holes in the shift linkage? High clutch peddle?

I think on those on the forward end of the
clutch rod a lpto tractor had a double
clevis and a non lpto tractor did not.
To be positive though you need to look at
the stamping on the transmission.
That does not lie.

I thought so too.

Seller is asking $650. Everything is there, but the motor is stuck.

It would be a great addition but don’t think I need it a project that bad, plus he won’t budge on the price. At $500 I’d feel better.

I may go look at it today and maybe I’ll change my mind.

What about the transmission? I’m not familiar with the “lift up to shift” 5 speeds. He says it goes into all gears, but not much testing without a running engine.

Look like it's an 1955 860 but the photos are not clear enough to tell for sure. It is not an 801 series tractor.

What makes you say that Kirk?

I’m not well versed in the 100 series. I’d really like the horsepower, but need LPTO. It’s got one remotes which I have little use for either.

I will say that’s it’s very tempting.

Yes, Kirk is right it has the early running boards and maybe fenders, and the fenders are definitely not the 801 fenders.

Great info. I’ll keep this all in mind.

I didn’t get a chance to go look it over after work. I offered the guy $500 and he said he’d think about it.

I’m interested and have been reading up on 860s. It’s primary job would be mowing and running a NH68 baler. I’m just starting to dabble in hay.

I’ll get more pics and check out the model number when I get a chance.

Thanks all for your help. Hopefully I’ll be able to post on my new prize soon.

Looks like a 55 model 850 or 860.
Flat foot boards, brake shaft thru the clutch housing, rounded fenders.
High clutch pedal looks to make it a 860.
I defiantly don't need another project but I grew up on a 850.
For that price and being in my state I could get interested.

Update.

Well looks like I’ll be picking it up after work today. Seems the seller had a few no shows and got fed up. We agreed on a price I’m hooking up the trailer as soon as I get home.

I plan to look it over, get the model number and gather up all the parts. Hopefully it’s only stuck from sitting and some ATF will loosen it up.

I’ve bought lots of equipment in the past few years but this is the first tractor in 8 years or so. Should be a nice step up from my late 8N.

Guess I’ll see you guys over on the Ford board...
