Does Sherman Trans from 8N also fit 2N?

This Spring looking to put a Sherman Combo Step Up/Down Trans into my 46 2N. No, I have not bought it yet, but I am looking for one. Going through tons of literature, but cant find a definitive statement if the 8N Combo trans also fits a 2N. I know installation process is a bit different between a 2N & an 8N. Its an obvious thing, probably so obvious that no one needs to actually say it, (except me). Was looking to sell my 2N and buy a Ford 861, but now that the 2N is working so well, I can't seem to part with it. The step down is needed to improve my snow plowing with the Dearborn front blade, and the step up is needed for driving back my firewood to my house. As always, thanks to all who help me out with my dumb questions, Larry.

If you need a lower speed tractor hold off on the Combo for the N And the 861.
Look for a 3000 with the 8 speed.
You'll get enough gears for any purpose and automatically get live hydraulics to boot.
And you can get power steering, live pto, differential lock and other features on them too.
Ford made good, competitive tractors and did well against all comers.
To do that they made each series of Ford tractors better than the last.

Yes,as hobo said. Not sure why you are limiting yourself to one from an 8n? Any sherman combo with the dogleg style handle that came out of a 9n up to the early X01 series will fit your 2n. Change of the input shaft and nose cone came early in the X0 series to a 15 spline shaft. You will want one with a ten spline input shaft. Make sure your tractor is a 2n and not a 9n and you will not have a problem making the switch.
