New engine starts for a few seconds and floods out

I have a 52 Ford 8n side mount distributor 6 volt with electronic ignition. I just picked up my newly rebuilt engine from the
local machine shop who have re assembled 3 8n engines for me previously. They all have worked great until this one.

This engine will pretty much start immediately after choking briefly and run for 2-10 seconds and floods out because I'm slowly
applying more choke to keep her running.

I began the first time starting procedure by spinning the engine with the spark plugs removed to bring the oil pressure up. I only
get about 5 psi on the gauge. Install plugs and fire her up. She only runs for only a few seconds and floods out from looking at
the wet plugs. I set the plugs out to dry for a couple hours and try the starting procedure again with the same result.

Thinking this mighty be a carb problem, I switched the carb from my old reliable 8n tractor and the result is the same. Any ideas about what I might be doing wrong?

Sounds more like letting in air someplace, like where carb meets intake, until you choke it out. While my bet would usually be the carb flange; since the second, working carb also failed, it may be the intake inlet flange is warped, or the intake has a leak.
My Cub gave me fits for weeks: I could run for twenty minutes, but was full-choke by then and she'd die out.

csm ,Have you checked the spark,it should jump a 1/4" or more. You may have weak spark.I hope that you have tried running it with the air cleaner unhooked.check for vacume leaks at manifold to block and carb mounting flange.

Spark is great since I installed the electronic ignition (purchased from this site.) The coil ohm's out to spec too.

Mmm...now I'm starting to think you might be on to something. I don't think its the carb flange. Could be the exhaust/intake manifold though. I'm not seeing or feeling any air leaking around the carb gaskit or the exhaust manifold gaskits but I'm not sure how to check that positively without the engine running. I hate to just throw parts at this problem but maybe I should replace the exhaust manifold?

pull the manifold and spray the manifold and the block and both sides of the gasket with copper or silver paint.. fairly generously. re-assemble, let set, then see what you get.

yeah there are other options, but 10 cents of spray paint and 5 minutes of wrench turning is a cheap, easy check.
