Ultimate Tractor Frustration

Having this much snow and no chains or rear weight in or on the Jube! The snow plow just went by for the first time in two days.

Talk about kicking myself for not buying some chains that came up 3 years ago that were like new and fit my 13.6 tires. The guy was only asking $300. Grrr

Exactly! Wise adage Arlen!

There were two schools of thought on my buying those chains a while back and unfortunately I chose the wrong school. :D

1. I could get chains, but realistically, how often will I ever need
them in our normal climate.

2. If I get the chains, whether it snows one year or not, I'll always have the chains for whenever it does.

The chains can also be useful for the wet clay conditions around here where I've broken traction, filled up the lugs with clay and turned the tractor tires into racing slicks. :)

Snow if falling again right now and another 10" expected overnight.

The added weight of bringing new chains home from the Store will give better traction to get home....... right?

Duey,

RIGHT!

Now the pros are seriously outweighing the cons! :D

I'm at the base of a hill that fools people into thinking it is a gradual climb but half way up it gets suddenly steep and it's an ongoing rodeo, or comedy of errors out there as cars with their modern no traction tires only make it half way and have to roll all the way back down. Do they park it and walk home? Nope!
they keep taking runs at the hill.

Last night there was a small white car out front that tried to make it and then rolled back down. So I donned boots and winter gear and went out to help. This arrogant character with a truck was telling him to take another run at it. I said he wouldn't get more than ten feet because the hill gets suddenly steeper just past the next driveway and slopes off to the right sending sliding cars into the trees.

But he kept treating me like a fool and wouldn't listen. I got a little miffed, gave up and I said, "O.K. you're the wise one." and started walking back into my yard. I hear him say, "I am the wise one actually. I had to laugh and said, "Ya, I can tell."

A classic in "wise in one's own eyes."

The car didn't make it even up the hill as far as the next driveway. Maybe if he knew I've lived right here for 38 years, it would have dawned on him that I might know the hill under these conditions. I wonder. :D

You did me a favor a couple of years ago, if you are serious about chains I think I still have a couple of pair, shoot me an email.
I bought some NAA parts I think from you, Rochester right?

JJ.

Funny, I just played my Gretsch drums to Jimmy Mack by Charity Brown. :D

You must be as old as I am cause I can't quite remember either.
Maybe coincidentally I'm into Rochesters in a limited way but I"m an expert now in the pre 1952 and post '52 Rochester B's.
I had to put a post '52 style together from my box of 6 single barrel B's In this case collecting them from parts trucks over the years paid off big time.:D

One thing I won't do again on an old accelerator pump bore is to clean it up too much. Those spring-backed leather accelerator pumps are finiky.

But yep, there you are in my Email Program's address book
triple J Jacks. I'll send an email about the chains.

Cheers,

Yeah, but an ounce of prevention goes a long way. We don't always plan on failing, we fail to plan. It's like if your area loses power often, you may go out and buy a backup generator. It may never kick in all year, but then one April when that ice storm comes, you'll be glad you did. Here in Michigan today, we are getting snow now, turning into rain/snow mix later, then back over to snow tomorrow, then back over to rain/snow -it is and will be a treacherous next few days.

Indeed!

What's worse is as soon as you throw something away you'll need it.

(quoted from post at 02:39:49 02/12/19) Terry,
I'm thinking your plight is similar to the
guy who didn't fix his leaky roof because
it was sunny.
????

Jerry,

Guilty as charged. :)
And now that there is approaching 2 feet on the ground and still snowing, the snowed-in white GMC is blocking access to my rear blade and it would be a nightmare trying to put chains on right now.

I can get at my wide mouthed rear bucket though . . . albeit with a ton of shoveling through the bank created by the highways dept . . . Hmmm (?)

Tim,

Definitely foreboding all right. I have a flat roof and there is 30' X 30' of two-foot snow up there. If but more like when the snow gets rained on, the added weight can be disastrous.

Even the heavily laden fir branches get so heavy when they get rained on that the sheer weight can bust healthy branches and even tree tops off. We had a heavy snowfall like this about seven years ago and the top 15 feet of a fir tree put a hole in my roof. Came back from town and water was pouring in on my phone and just missing the computers.

It was a process using a propane hand torch to get the flat roof dry enough to patch it.

BUT . . . I have since removed that tree and three other potentially problematic trees that were close to the building.
Gave my garden way more sun in the process. :)

Cheers,
T

Tim,

Just because we're so old we remember when "party" wasn't a verb, is no reason to stop playing right! :D

Last night I turned the screws another full turn at the bases of the Speed King towers because being practiced up again I needed quicker pedal response. Love that Speed King and still think it is the best pedal ever. My snare is a Premier.

Keep on rocking the neighborhood! :D

Steve,
I have a great well so don't have to worry about that.
But when all of this melts I'll be keeping a close watch on a crack in my shop floor (downstairs) that i re-patched this fall. So far so good, no water seeping in, but the melt of all this snow hasn't started yet.

Have to go out and do some more shoveling, load up the wood box, take the snow off the Jubilee tent, take some photos.

Cheers,
Terry

Winter is sure getting a little long in the tooth! I'm running out of places to put snow and very much wishing I had a snowblower for the tractor.

Actually that was Ncorrigible .

Ah ha!
I think that the only dealings I had with Jim was that he mailed me some pages from an NAA Service Manual.

Still snowing!
18" and rising.

Mixed blessing.
Notice the happy/Sad faces almost in over their heads. :D
