Proofmeter reads to fast

I'm finishing a front to rear rebuild and installed a new proof-meter and cable. The meter reads 1000 rpm at idle (525rpm with electonic tach) and clear off scale at half throttle. I bought this from our host YTCo and they sent a new one and it did the same thing. the both were from the same supplier but different mfg. dates. They are sending me another but said if it does the same thing it is a problem with the tractor. I do not see what else it can be. Is there some thing I'm missing? Thanks for any input.

I had the same issue with the tach that was in the 8N I bought. Once I got the cable working right it read like yours. I was correctly advised by Royce that the 8N tach is
unique and one for a NAA or newer will read too fast. On closer inspection the one in mine looked like it came out of a Jubilee. Bought a new one for an 8N off Ebay and is
now reading correctly.

our numbers are in the ballpark for being the NAA meter installed on the 8N. It should read 1.56 times normal if that is what you have.

Look at the meter. As others are saying, you may have a meter for something other than an 8N.

The 8N proofmeter will have a face notation "Hours at 1580 rpm". The NAA will have "Hours at 1515 rpm".

Thanks for the info. I checked and lucky me I have one of each and they both read about the same. I'm going to wait and see what the next one does, it should be here in a day or so. YTCo has really been good about dealing with problems. I have ordered a lot of parts for this job and had very few problems BUT I'm pretty sure this is a parts problem. I'll let everyone what happens when the new part comes in. Thanks to all for the help and info.

The new proofmeter came last Friday and I got it in and tested this weekend. This last unit and the second unit I received both have hours at 1580 RPM on the dial and they both read basically the same. With the engine at 1000 RPMs the meter reads 1650 RPMs.The first unit I received had hours at 1515 RPM and it read almost the same.Hard to believe I got 3 bad parts but I don' see anything else it can be. The last 2 were the same Mfg. date, that probably didn't help. I think it is time to move on. Thanks to all for your input.
