Went to start the 9n(6volt positive ground)the other day to live it and when I pressed the starter button there was sparks coming from the dash around the key and gauges. It ran and started fine prior to this.. would something be shorted out somewhere, any ideas on were to check first..I looked over all the wiring quick and didn?t notice anything out of the ordinary. Any advise

Sounds like it's time to do the clean, bright and tight thing to it.
Remove your ground from the battery and undo Every connection on the entire wiring harness - one at a time mind you so you don't get them mixed up.
Clean both the wire connector and the terminal it hooks to with a plumber's fitting brush. Then reconnect them as you go.
Make sure you remove and clean both ends of the battery cables.
That is a routine maintenance procedure on those tractors.

Where is your battery "ground" cable connected?

If it's connected to the dash "superstructure" and there's a poor connection between the dash assembly, etc. and the cast iron tractor chassis, current during cranking will flow through the steel oil gauge line, the throttle linkage, the steering column, and anything else that provides a ground path from the cast iron chassis to the (+) battery terminal.

If that's the case, the easiest "fix" is to route the ground cable from the battery direct to a bolt in the cast iron chassis.
