1952 8n oil pressure

Hello, we have recently installed a used engine in our 1952 8n that we overhauled with a rebuild kit (pistons/sleeves, rod bearings ect..), the engine is running well and the oil pressure is at approx. 40 psi when at idle, the problem we are having is it takes longer than it should to get oil pressure upon start up, hard to put an exact number on it but maybe 20 seconds? Once running it will maintain pressure when in use just fine but it is the delay on start up that is concerning, is there any common known cause of this, one thought would be if the oil filter housing is draining and needs to filled when started but am not certain if there is a check valve or anything to address that or not. Thank you for any info. on this concern

The OEM oil filter is a bypass system which doesn't need to fill to make engine oil pressure. Unless you have modified it that is not your problem.

Are you sure you do not have a problem with the gauge?

The engine has no known modifications, we replaced the gauge with a new one from our local dealer and it acts the same as the one that came with the tractor

usual suspects chinees / india gauge--- do you have lifter or knocking noise---- oil weight. cold air temp ya can have a lag 5 secs can seem like 20

no knocking noise when starting or running and hold oil pressure great when in use, but when comparing it to my 2n there is a noticeable difference when oil pressure arrives, we are running 30 weight engine oil

Possibly a vacuum leak at the pickup tube making it slow to prime. If it's cold and you are using a monogram SAE 30 that doesn't help.

Drain the oil install a vacuum gauge on the end of the pick up it should pull a vacuum as soon as you hit the starter it no you need to find out why... If no you have a pick up are oil pump problem more than likely a pick up problem...

If yes its not the pick up are oil pump...

Its that simple so simple it took me 30 years to get it...

40 PSI seems a bit high. Did you rebuild the oil pump too? The OEM Ford 8N Operators Manual states, "...oil pressure gauge should read approximately 27 PSI at 1500 RPM, or about half throttle, when the engine is at normal operating temperature".

Tim just might have hit on something. How long does it take to get oil pressure up to say, 20-25 psi? Perhaps your oil pressure relief spring is too stiff.

How does that prevent oil pressure from building? If anything it would make it happen faster.
