I recently purchase an 8N Ford on the block has this label
N L81

8
N
-
B

2

Is this a serial number and what does it mean?
Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you
Carlos

Welcome to the forum Carlos. Those don't look like a serial number
that I would recognize. The serial number should start and end with
either an asterisk or diamond shape, then 8Nxxxx
Here's a picture of where it should be located compliments of John Smith.
On an original engine it will be lightly hand stamped in this location.
They can be difficult to read and may require paint removal and cleaning.
If the engine was replaced with an industrial engine, it may have a
metal tag elsewhere on the block and no serial number here.

No, it's not a serial number. It's the date the mold for the block was made as Kirk said.

See tip # 71 to find the s/n.

And tip # 39 to get the manuals.
