Temp Gauge Fit

I purchase a temperature gauge from a local parts supplier. It specifically lists NAA as one of the models plus some other more recent models. Appears to be the same as the one sold here on YT: https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Ford-NAA_Temperature-Gauge-Black-Rim_C3NN18287ABLAC.html

However, the probe itself is noticeably larger in diameter than the old one I removed, and will not fit in the hole in the block. Has anyone encountered this before or have any suggestions on where to find the correct temp gauge? Every where I look, the probes appear to be the same as the one I purchased before.

Could part of the old gauge still be stuck in the hole?

(IIRC, gauge probe goes at RH rear of cylinder head.)

Good chance the hole is full of rust or scale. Poke around a little in the hole with a screwdriver. maybe try some type of hard water scale lime remover.

I believe the collar in the side of the head needs to be removed and get one that will work with your thermocouple. bought from ebay but made sure that collar also came with it. the new collar will screw right in but has a larger hole in it.

Since you say that the new one is larger than the one you removed I assume that you got the old one out. It is possible that you you just have a lot of rust around the probe. There should be plenty of clearance around the probe for coolant to circulate so that the temperature can register. Rust tends to accumulate at the back of the head, and the probe goes near the bottom of the jacket.
