question on steering column and head gasket

Hello everyone first i want to say thank you guys for the help on my last post you guys are so helpful and friendly. So my next question is on my 1940 9N tractor it has the old one peace steering column with gauges its all cast the steering is really sloppy because the steering gears i bet are bad my question is i have a 2N tractor i believe. i use for parts that one has really tight steering can i use all the complete assembly its the cast but then the part wear the gauges go thats another metal part its a 2 peace not one like the original one it has right now. My other question is on the head gasket engine runs really good no smoke no leaks but the tractor has been outside for a while my question also is when i paint it should i go ahead and replace the head gasket or just leave it alone at his time it runs really really good just looks beat

Yes you can use the steering assembly from the 2N and no I would not replace the head gasket if you don't have a problem. You can create problems such as broken head studs which can be difficult to repair.

You are lucky to have a good used tight set... when you remove them keep the washers with the gears they are selective shims all should go well is you keep them matched with the gear they are on..
