Con rods Dry Spun Bearings

Posted this in the Ferguson Group and only one answer. So what would make the first two rods wet and the last two dry. Low oil pressure??

Neighbor brought over his To 30 because motor was making knocking noise. I pulled the pan and was surprised to see rods 3 & 4 dry, no oil on them at all and bearing spun on 4. Rods 1 & 2 were wet. What would cause this to happen. plenty of good oil in motor. Looking at as much of the motor that I could see, there was plenty of oil being pumped though the motor.

I would look at how the oil is routed through the engine. Many times the manual will show a schematic of how the crank is drilled etc. Look for a bearing shell which has an oil hole that must line up with a drilled channel. If the bearing spins such that the hole no longer lines up with the channel, the oil is shut off at that point. Some times a bearing is grooved in the center to allow oil flow onward. If an un-grooved bearing was installed at overhaul oil flow becomes restricted by the bearing. In each case oil flow upstream is not affected.
