WW2N,No grease it gets lubed by splash oil from the cam gears. The later models were oiled by a return line to the back side of the governor from the oil filter, some were retrofitted with a line later.

Den this gov has a grease zerk on the back, I took it out and there is black grease on the threaded end of the zerk. it looked thin like lube plate.

Maybe someone use a grease fitting to fill the hole for the oil line? got photo?

You put enough grease in there and it will stop working. It gets enough oil from gear splash. If you grease it the 1/2" balls in side will get sticky and then your governor will not work.

WW2N ,Some one has put a 1/8" grease fitting in it for a plug, like R Geiger said, incited of a 1/8" pipe plug.I have been guilty of the same thing in the past as I didn't have a plug handy.

Dan ,Grease might make your governor work with 1/2" balls that are to small in it,I don't know.
I do know that the Governor balls are 5/8".

The Governor has Bigger Balls.LOL

Very possible as roller coaster bearings used to be overpacked to control speed, or
so I heard.

I stand corrected. Don't know what I was thinking of to come up with 1/2". I know grease will mess them up because I did that once.

The early 9N cast iron Governors had no oil line. They were added later and then dealers were instructed to add lines if a customer came in with governor issues. Governor balls are 5/8" diameter. Grease was never used, and I wouldn't try it. You can get a download of the original 9N/2N Governor maintenance/rebuild manual at the NTC site.
