dumb pto seal question

just picked up a seal for pto on my 8n(part#27SS3742). question #1. i paid 33.99 for it, that is quite abit higher than on line seals
question #2. which direction does it go in? there is the tapered rubber side and not tapered side, which way goes towards the front?

Side with "garter spring" faces the oil.

Other side is a "dust lip".

In normal practice, when installing a seal, the lip of the elastomer faces the oil.

Do you see what I am talking about, the "garter spring" surrounding the lip on that side of the seal?

yep, that's how it's going in, the side with the spring just under the seal towards the oil, the tapered side going towards my brush hog.
