Attention Dog and Cat Owners

Two of my friends have 4 year old mid sized dogs that have developed cancer. It turns out both dogs have been drinking and eating from fairly new stainless steel dog bowls made in China. When the bowls are filled with clean water an oily film forms on the water surface. A large veterinary service in the area has compiled info relative to these pet bowls and cancer in pets. We speculate the film may be from the SS manufacturing process in China. If you see this film on clean water in your pets SS bowls, stop using it. With any pet bowl, I'd run it through an automatic dishwasher on sanitize setting before using. Spread this around to fellow pet owners.

Thanks for the tip Teddy. We do have a fairly new stainless steel bowl (not sure where it is made) we've been using for water. Haven't seen any film though. How is putting it in the dishwasher going to help?

I asked the Great GOOGLE about this, and about the only REAL negative report I found on SS bowls was THIS:

So two dogs have cancer and somehow that's automatically being linked to China made dog bowls? Either there's more to the story, or people are simply looking for someone to blame.

"A large veterinary service in the area has compiled info relative to these pet bowls and cancer in pets." The dogs were not related. I don't know how many dogs were effected but it was a heck of a lot more than two.

Actually, I’m over there calling out the aholes that like to make fun of and belittle people they don’t know simply because they do things differently. Are you one of them?

I have no dog in this fight, nor cat, but who is the "large veterinary service" and where
is the compiled information? That information may help you dissuade the nay-sayers.
Personally, I will take it as a helpful warning. Thank you for posting it Phil.
Losing a pet is definitely not a pleasant experience.

Given that I can find no information online about this, I'm suspicious that it is an urban myth that isn't too widespread yet. 'Course, it could be true but just not hitting the web yet.

On the other hand, two shipping containers of dog bowls from China back in 2011 were found to be radioactive. The steel was contaminated with a radioactive substance at the foundry.

i tried too, and i saw the radioactive steel thing too.

but, radioactivity won't wash off. an oil film from stainless? after it is washed, i don't see how that happens.

some May be inclined to say, smart a$$. My dad's mom and dad both died of cerebral hemorrhage. My dad died of cerebral hemorrhage. Coincidence? Not likely.
