Stuck brake

I have a 52 8N and the left brake is stuck with the left brake pedal stuck down. The left wheel will turn if I back up, but is stuck if I try to go forward. Is there anyway to get it loose without tearing into the brake so I can just move it. Thanks.
 
Hook a tarp strap to the petal and see if it will woek then.Possibly a broken spring on the brake shoes.
 
I would also back off the brake shoe adjuster. If something inside is broken it could be getting bound between the brake shoe and the brake drum. Pulling a brake drum is not a big job unless there are the dreaded slotted tapered screws holding it to the hub. In that case it can be every man for himself.
OR it may be something very simple. The left brake is activated by a shaft through the transmission case. I would hit all bushings with a good penetrant: the shaft through the trans, the bushing in the casting for the shaft behind your left foot and the bushing access into the drum. Soak 'em, work 'em.
 
Had this happen once on a '48 8N with a hist of a "brake job" by the dealer from whom I purchased the tractor. Brakes would seize up going forward. Puting the tractor in reverse and stomping on the brakes would free them up. After a while the situation went away. It's been ten years and I still have the tractor. No more brake problems and the brakes still work.

Harold, the exact same thing happened to me when replacing the shoes on my 1950. Followed all the recommendations from the YT brain trust with no joy. Resolution was to clean and reinstall the original brakes.
 
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Special thanks to HCooke. After we got past the "polar vortex" and the snow melted a little, I tried putting it in reverse and stomping on the brake pedal while backing up. IT WORKED! Thanks again to everyone.
