Resister needed?

I am changing a 8n to 12 volts. I have purchased a 12 volt coil. Do I need to add a resister from the switch to the coil?

Yes the original resister is there. I was affraid to use it because I thought it would burn out being a 6 volt resister. Thanks for the advice. When it warms up a little I will try to finish the conversion.

You only need the original resistor no extra ones. Here is a diagram JMOR made hope it helps.

Nope. 6v or 12v doesn't matter to this resistor. It's there to reduce current to the coil when the tractor is running.
