Hydraulic cylinder questions

Since the arms on our 1950 8n won't go down (takes a long time, at least a month), how hard would it be to install a hydraulic cylinder (lines and all that)? During the spring of this year (2018) I flushed the trans/ hydraulics and the arms still didn't go down and I'm guessing I have to drop the pump I have a snow plow frame that I would like to install onto the tractor that came from a 2n that has been since sold (could have been a 9n, I don't remember).

n bottom of 8N pump, there are two control valves. Intake control valve opens to allow oil into suction of pump to raise the lift arms. Outlet (exhaust
) control valve opens to dump the oil from lift cylinder to lower lift arms. Since you can't lower, I would look at linkage/movement of ex control valve for complete movement, at spool of the ex valve to be sure spool and not just pin/rod connected to that spool is moving on command to lower, and finally, the holes in the valve sleeve against which spool moves are small and have been found clogged with debris blocking flow. The above, except for debris check can be done via the right side round inspection cover.

h, crap! Now I don't know if it is an intake or exhaust control valve problem??? Up/down, lift/lower?? :?

Its easier to diagnosis with the tractor flipped over...

A jokes aside remove the drain plug on bottom of pump you will have a good shot at seeing both valves in action... If the control valve is stuck you can get to it from there and work it... Its almost impossible to un-stick thru the side inspection hole... I have never figured out away to pull it out you just can not get to it form the inspection hole but you can thru the drain plug  If it wont relieve hydraulic pressure the control valve is stuck "in" the linkage will not pull it out you have to manually pull it out with pliers work it to free it up...

If you find it free and the linkage functions the pumps coming out...

Cool. I just need a place to do it. There’s a few inches of snow on the ground and I don’t have any bays to work on it
