8N Cant get Oil Pressure

Hey Guys,

Still having an issue getting oil pressure on my 8N, fuel, compression and spark is all good, and i have tried dens Oil pump priming methods a few times now but having no luck. Tried priming at the pressure relief valve by using an oil bottle and filling it with a thicker oil to trying and give me time to start it and put the plug back in, also tried pulling of the line at the pressure gauge and hooking a vaccum line up to it and putting oil down it and with both these methods i read oil pressure (25 psi) for a few seconds and then it drops right back off and thats all i will get. The old girl is trying to fire up as i am getting a fire, then it will turnover for a second or two, then it will fire again then keep turningover but will not start completely. I took my cap off my oil filter housing today and the new filter i put in there is bone dry, not sure if oil should be feeding through here once i get prime? Also could this be the oil pickup line in the pan that everybody talks about?

May I suggest to fill the filter housing with oil.
Pull the filter up some so you can pour your oil in.
As it fills reset the filter and continue till full.
Make sure the gasket is in place and secure top.
Use your oil squirt can and fill the gauge oil line
Tighten the gauge line then "back it off a couple of turns"
so the air can bleed off when when cranking.
Will be a little messy so have some rags close to clean up.
Good luck, j

to prime at the oil pressure relief valve you must use a pump oil can to get the oil in the small hole in the back where the poppet seats

When priming at the pressure relief valve you have to get the nozzle of the oil can into the back of the timing cover and into the line from the pump. Otherwise, you are only dumping oil into the cover. BTDT

No oil pressure on an engine that isn't running is hardly remarkable. Put the oil pressure issue on the back burner until you get the engine to run. If it doesn't register pressure when running you can return to the problem.

Ok thanks TOH, wasnt sure if this wasnt allowing my tractor due to a stuck valve or something to do with having no oil going to it, any idea where to go next?

I have been using a small nozzle pump oil can and am able to get it back about 2 inches into the hole which is about as long as the plunger so i feel like i should be getting the oil to where it needs to be.

I was told in my last post by a couple users that if i didnt see oil pressure then to address that issue first so that i would not cause any damage to bearings etc.

Kyle,You ask,Also could this be the oil pickup line in the pan that everybody talks about?
Well after priming the pump as you said, and have pressure then it drops off it is probably the pickup line loose or brolen at the pump.To check drain the oil into a clean pan for reuse, then reach up in the drain hole and see if the pickup bell and pipe is loose from the pump.
