Early 8n begining engine overhaul

I haven't been an active member for a long time but signed back up. Anyhow I'm finally getting to rebuilding the engine and repainting my early 8n. It has worked hard for me and I let it go longer than I should have. Crank is rough. Had about 30 psi cold and then less than 10 hot. I thought it had the .090 sleeves but once I got it on the stand I see it has the thin ones. Been trying to learn about these engines. My first dry sleeve overhaul. I'm concerned about getting the sleeves out and new ones put in.

Either what Bruce says, or take the block to a machine shop and have them replace the sleeves. You are going to need the machine shop to
grind the crank. They can also true the rods, and do valve work if needed.

If I weren't tearing this engine down this far I'd consider honing the sleeves. I don't have the tools to measure the bore with. I have the sleeve tools on the way though. Indeed the block, crank, rods and head are all going to a machine shop. I want the block cleaned and checked and I want to see if the cam running clearance is okay. I understand these don't have cam bearings. This tractor is ready for a good renovation it's done a tremendous amount of work for me so it's time I bring it back up and take good care of it from now on. I'm attached to this tractor. The first tractor I ever drove was a late 8n with side distrib and tach. I appreciate all the advice and help.

That a fudged up looking engine stand are is it spose to be a engine stand....... Was its first life a engine stand...

Twin post stand, made for heavy engines. This engine is cleverly mounted sideways on that stand. The two ends telescope for different lengths and there is a hand crank and gear box to rotate the assembly. These stands typically support 1500-2500lbs.

And a nicely made adapter as well - not only clever but handy with tools. I don't think the sleeve R&R is going to pose much of a challenge for this flat head newbie...

I had wanted a stand of this style for a long time and finally got one when I worked on my 970 Case engine. I really love that engine stand. I can access everything on the block easily that I will be working on. The valve work will be done at the machine shop. He is going to hot tank it and check the block over and handle the crank and rod work also.
