8N transmission possibly locked up

Just bought a 8n where the PO had removed the transmission cover and the shifter forks and the oil. Apparently the transmission had locked up and he attempted to fix it. I can not move anything in the trans but the half-inch rods that slide back and forth. When trying to rock the tractor using the tires, there is no play or clicking.
Should I be able to slide the gears or shifting rings in the transmission with a pry bar?
Am I going to have to remove the transmission?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

P.S. It came with the original owners operation manual. I have never seen one before. He also had the receipts from the dealer for the engine rebuild in 1988. And, all parts and repairs over the years.

The gears do not move,They are in constainst mesh. only the shifting collars that the shifting forks go to move. Do not pry on the gears!

Thank you R Geiger,
How do I move the shifting collars?

The photo I posted shows everything in the neutral position. Can you post a photo looking down into the trans? Did you check out the link I provided?

I'm trying to post a picture of the transmission (I'm an old man and ignorant on posting photos . The PO has removed the shifting mechanisms and forks. I'll try to release the bind then install the shifting mechanisms.
Thanks for the advice and leading me to the post.

I know what you mean about old arthritic hands, I had to teach myself about computers and cameras, part of the fun of having time to do so. Lot warmer than working on my machines this time of the year. I think I would try and get the couplers in the neutral positions before I put the forks back in. It might be easier to get to them. I would try and rotate everything backwards to try and unload the stresses on them. I think the article talks about that.
Good luck

There could be a problem on countershaft in bottom with 2nd gear galled on countershaft. If is in 2 gears the front gear in pic will have a tooth broke or gear it runs with in bottom.

urious, why tooth broke due to being in two gears at same time?

Thanks, to everyone; Dean, R Geiger, and JMOR for their advice.
I was able to turn the engine CCW and it released the bind in the transmission and I was able to roll it into the shop. As I examined the gears, I found one tooth broke off. Will that be a problem?

I really appreciate the advice. You guys are great.

It is a gamble I wouldn't take. The missing tooth is now the weakest link in the chain and will likely let go once the tractor is pulling a heavy load. Its best to replace the gear.
