Hey Dan,
You and my son had overlapped service. He enlisted in the Marines in 1984 to 1997, first as Teletype
Tech then as Computer Repair Tech.
I visited him and then watched graduation at MCRD, San Diego. Later I visited him at Camp Pendleton.
He then went to 29 Palms and my wife, 2 younger kids and I visited him. At Camp Lejeune my wife and I
visted him and his wife, (high school sweatheart) during a trip for our 25th wedding anniversary.
He was then stationed at the Naval Reserve Station, Indianapolis. We visited frequently as our first
born grandson arrived.
He then went back to 29 Palms for some advanced training before going to Koneohe Bay, Hawaii. My wife
and I visited there 5 times. Our second grandson was born there just after our 5th visit so my wife
went back to visit.
When he and his family arrived here in January, 1998, we had a banner in the front yard to welcome them home. To mark their 20th anniversary since separating, they posed for a picture in the same place in our front yard. Kathy, his wife, then did some computer magic (to me) and blended the two pictures.
I had to laugh. He went from clean shaved with hair to bald and a full beard. The boys went from toddlers to full grown men with beards.

I started in the quansit huts in MCRD San Diego. Then to Ft. Huachuca for training then Camp Swap Okinawa. Watched them film the movie Karate Kid. Came back to Camp Pendleton and went to Northern California for mountain warfare and cold weather training. Got divorced and went to Camp Hansen Okinawa. Came back to Ft Ord to work with 10th Support Group then onto Camp Pendelton again. Lots of moving around (thats why wife left me) and lots of training. I would do it all over again if I could.
