Boom for a 3PT post hole digger

I bought a post hole auger, gearhead, and pto shaft at an estate sale for $50. The boom had broken off near the u-shaped support that connects to the 3 pt. lift arms. The piece of the boom that connects and supports the gearhead was nowhere to be found. The mounting surface on the gearhead is 6 inches wide.

Does anyone have a boom they're willing to part with? I don't know the brand but it is a faded red color.

I live just south of Atlanta.

I've seen lifting booms made from post hold auger booms.

I don't know of anyone who currently has one but they become available from time to time when a gearbox fails.

I have a similar unit here. Good head, auger and shaft but the mount for it was some home made contraption off an Allis WD or some such.
I was going to build a new 3 point boom for it but then found a Ford 903? PHD so never did anything with it.
It would not be hard to build the boom. Go to someplace like TSC and take a few measurements then buy some 2" heavy wall square tubing and roll your own.

Bear in mind that the 8N has no means of providing downward force on the auger, so unless your soil is quite soft and rock-free, it won't dig in very well at all. I have a Howse auger for my 8N, but have never been able to use it successfully in my hard, rocky soil.

Bill, down pressure on three point lifts is extremely rare. Post hole diggers are known for digging faster once they get started, than the operator wants, making it necessary to allow it to go down only very slowly, in order to avoid getting it stuck in the ground. Yours may have worn cutting edges.

I've never seen an AG tractor with three point down pressure.

International/Farmall fast hitch had down pressure - 3xx's, 4xx's, and 5xx's for sure - probably others. Uncle had a 460 and loved that feature. The picture below is a 560.

Down pressure isn't a problem with an auger and an N. The problems are when you need to pull the auger out and you don't have live hydraulics, especially if the auger is stuck.
