Champion H14 Spark Plug

Would it hurt to run a Champion H14 spark plug instead of the Champion H12 Spark plug in a Ford 2N. Any other recommended plugs? Mine H12 and Autolite 437 seem to foul easily.
Thanks,
Bill

I don't think it would hurt. MIght not help either. The H14 and 437 are both in the same heat range. I would look into the cause of your plugs fouling. Running to rich, weak spark, burning oil?

What's fouling your plugs? Oil or soot. If oil, try anti foul adapters, if soot, lean her up a hair and make sure spark I up to snuff.

The H12 is colder than the 437, the cross-ref for 437 would be H14 (already stated above). Champion H10 (autolite 216) was the OEM spark plug. If you start getting detonation or pre-ignition from a hotter plug then you went too far, engine damage can result. You can also remove plug and inspect for melting around the electrodes after some use.

I don't think going another range up will hurt though, especially on a low compression, low RPM application like these. Heat ranges were already bumped up a level or two when unleaded fuel came around, so the normal/safe heat level is now H14/437.

Fouling plugs is not because of manufacturer or type, most likely a carb/fuel issue. The OEM FORD plug was spec'd as Champion H10, 14mm. The 14mm is the thread spec. It is a fine thread pitch: 14mm x 1.25mm. Later, Champion released their H12 plug, a hotter version and also AUTO-LITE introduced their 437 plug -a hotter plug than the H10 Champion as well. I use both, and never have had any issues with either, as both perform equally as well in my opinion. I'll buy whichever my local parts store has in stock; they are priced the same. Today, they list the plugs as: Champion 512 (H12); and AUTO-LITE 216 (437). There are a few other brands like NSK some have used but I've found no need to venture outside the dome.
