One would have to ask why change?

I just kind of liked the look of the air cleaner through the hood but dont want to do it if it requires more than the hole in the hood.

The 8N had a Cyclone air cleaner that stuck out the side of the hood. Never heard of one out the top. My 9N has a cyclone cleaner but it is under the hood where you can't see it.

you have a plate on the right side of your 8n for an external cyclone bowl. you can cut a hole in the top and install one like that is in the picture. I do believe it will hurt the price when selling it though. find a photo of an external bowl on an 8n on the net as they look pretty good.

If you look close you can see the cyclone jar to the right of the stock oil bath air cleaner. Sorry best picture I could find.

I would check to see it they are mounted the same before I went very far with the project. I know how they mount on the 8n but not on the 9 or 2 n.

Hmm any idea where i could find one of the cheap cyclone air cleaners? Those look really nice also. Never knew about those before!

Here is the cyclone in my 1940 9N, note I had to remove the battery so you could see it.

Ahh yes i think that is too much for me also! I might just have to keep an eye out on Craigslist and such for one. Id prefer to not cut the hole in the hood now that i know about those cleaners. Thanks for all the info everyone!

The pre cleaners probably had their day when farmers were running in dust all day, for most use today the oil bath is more than enough for me, but they do look good. Both of mine look good hanging in my shop!

Seriously though radnack, look in a tractor bone yard for a cyclone if you want one.
The jars, gaskets, bails, etc. are available to replace if needed.

So did anyone ever find out a part number on the air cleaner where the pipe sticks out of the hood? Mine currently has this type and would like to replace it.
