It is a 1 ton. The bed was narrowed 6" on each side. Then I used lumber saved from a chicken coup for the bed boards and rack. Hoist works fine. Rims are split rims but not the rh5 man killers.
 
Dad had about a '41,grain box as high as the cab,fill it with oats from the ol' Case 5' combine,stick it in granny gear and it would lift the front end off the ground.scared the crap out of me @ 14

My first vehicle was a similar '53, albeit not that pretty.
Weren't the turn signals an added option in '51?
Can't remember what engine was in mine. Big straight six.
 
I am sure the blinkers were an option. the motor in this one is a babbit pounder 216. When I was a younger just out of college, I had a 53 gmc 5 window with a full pressure 235. I was lucky on this one , the engine is pretty sound.
