Local seller has this 8N for sale for 3K. Seems like a nice guy over the phone. States it runs good and everything works as it should. Anything that I should be aware of. Check out the pics and please advise. Thanks to all.

Good for you for doing your homework BEFORE you buy a tractor.
Depending on how good the tires are and how well it runs probably about $2K tops.
If you can afford $3K for a tractor I strongly suggest you skip the N Series Fords altogether and look for a 600, 800, 2000, 3000, or 4000.
You will get Way more tractor for not much more money.

This is a trade situation. Most of these are going for 3500+ in my area of Arizona. Don't have the cash to buy one which explains the trade. Nothing available locally for 2K that is in this condition.

the question is, apparently, whether it's worth what you're trading for it. what [i:d7257617d9]are[/i:d7257617d9] u trading for it?

Plus the seller is willing to deliver the tractor from over 2 hours away. Which is nice as I don't have a heavy duty trailer. I figured that would be worth a little extra value.

Looks good but priced on the high side. How much is appearance worth to you? Here is a similar machine on the local Craig's list priced at $1650. Not as pretty, front distributor, and missing a few of the niceties (proof meter, draw bar) on the one you are looking at but comes with the same description and half the asking price. Other than the distributor the other items could be added for a couple hundred dollars. The machine you are considering is certainly worth a first hand look and some negotiating if you like what you find when you see and operate it.

Cracked engine blocks are common and number one thing to look for. Any signs of body filler in that area is a big red flag. Tires and rims are also top of the list. Rotted/rusted out hat rims are also pretty common and will cost you $300 and tire shop labor to replace. A good set of new rears is another $1k.

ah, the plot thickens :)

yes, free delivery in your situation is definitely worth something.

Much too expensive in my area of the Midwest. No more than $2,000.

I sold a VERY good 51 with Sherman combination about three months ago for $2,500. Mine was much better than the pictured tractor but not a trailer queen. Had two calls and both came to see it. Both wanted it, and the first one with the cash bought it. I'm certain that I would have had no calls had it been priced at $3,000 despite photos, etc.

Apparently my problem is location. Google this type of tractor in the Phoenix area and you will see what I'm up against as far as price.

I did and prices are quite high for everything. I realize this is a trade but if it were an outright purchase at $3000 I would be looking at something liuke this instead:

Ford 610 Workmaster @ $5200

Also priced high for my market area but a lot more bang for the buck. The only selling point for N-series tractors these days is rock bottom buy in price. If you can't get that then spend a bit more and get a lot more tractor.

I guess I should also let the forum know that this is half toy half work tractor. I have a small piece of property and potentially may use a loader or scoop for the back. 1.3 acres of desert.

Well, if that's the going rate for a decent 8N in your area, it may be OK. It looks better than most and is a later model with the corresponding improvements.

It also has decent tires and an optional swinging drawbar which you will find handy. And it's a big plus that he's willing to trade.

You may need to replace the battery though. That one looks like the battery from a CUT or Honda, but it may be OK in your climate.

Good lick with your search.

Some items that I have about 2600 into.

BTDT what I had I did not have much use for so traded it out...

You can get a lot done with that tractor if a tractor is what you need... Most of use got by with a N till we could (wanted) do better...

It does have most all the upgrades a factor N could have, side mount distributor, late steering box, 12V conversion and good tars...

Just looking at the pix no one can tell the condition it does look like it was someones baby at one time and not beat all the ell... It has 7 to $1000 worth of tars on it

I got $3500 for my 50 I broke even on what I had in it and lost my labor but look at the friends I made.

Go get it...

him willing to trade i'd jump on it after a close in person inspection and drive around but him delivering and trading if its what you need you'll enjoy it

Someone gave me a Air Cleaner -Hood mounted Breather on the right side like this has. What all tractors would this be for??? They thought i could use it on my 2-N/9-N but i already have a breather stack coming up through the hood which I like. cleddy

Tractor delivered this morning. Runs good. Needed a right front steering arm and drag link end. Also battery box was rotted out. No leaks. Seller knocked off $250 for what was needed to be repaired. The cost for deliver from Tucson to my location was an easy $500 other than getting it myself. Has a new home.
As previously mentioned, this will be about 40% work and 60% play. Thanks to all who responded.

that's a good looking tractor. prices always depends first on condition which that looks to be pretty good. next is location. in your area that's probably a decent price. where I am at its quite a bit lower but I have seen other places its higher. its always supply and demand. so welcome to the club. if your happy then we are happy for you. if you have any problems, questions just ask as there are plenty of people on here with good knowledge on these 8n tractors. very popular tractor in its day. good luck.
