Has anyone bought after market hood side panels if so how bad are they.

Are you assuming they are bad? they are only 80 bucks a side. buy some and let us know.

What model tractor? The hood side panels, often called 'doglegs' on the 9N Model were smooth -no external bolt recesses stamped on. The 2N introduced the recesses and continued on with the 8N and beyond. If you seek the latter style, Dennis Carpenter repops them at $79 each side. I would trust his quality above and beyond anyone else's as he owns the original stamping dies and presses to make them with and is the only Licensed By Ford supplier. Most others either buy his and mark them up or get cheap clones made in Cheena. You can only buy the later style nowadays new, no smoothies are made today, as p/n 8N-16618 (RH) and 8N-16619 (LH). If you seek the 9N smooth doglegs, they pop up on ebay often, and many times are in decent shape. The mounting is different with a smoothie so you may have to do some modifications.
