9N and 8N engines compatible?

For those of you with good memories, you'll recall I have a 1941 9N with stuck motor. Nothing has changed.

However, I've been talking to a local man with an 8N that he wants to get rid of. Engine is good, trans is bad. It was a county piece of equipment and supposedly they chewed up the trans trying to pull start the tractor. Anyway, motor was running well when he bought it.

Any chance the 8N motor will bolt up to the rest of my 9N tractor? I've not yet taken a good look at his tractor yet---last time I saw it was buried in the weeds. He has all Farmalls, about 20 of them, doesn't particularly like Fords. Not relevant to what I'm asking, but interesting nonetheless.

Thanks for any help--I expect this is probably not going to be a match, but I don't have a good enough eye to see if bolts are in the right place, etc. I suppose main thing is the starter needs to be positioned the same.

Thanks, I'll follow up with the 8N man, see what he wants for his tractor and check if his engine still turns freely. Been sitting more than a few years from the looks of it.

Only worth scrap price not running!

Ok, thanks. I'll see if it's worth making an offer on. At least it's close by so getting it to my place shouldn't be too much trouble.

As said they will interchange but you will have to use the throttle rod , bracket and gov off your '41. If your '41 is early and original your gov will not
have an oil line to it like the 8n gov. So you might have to reroute the line or use the 8n gov case and change out the arms.

Ok, thank you. I've already removed most of those parts from mine, so I'm familiar with them. Will take a look at the 8N to see how everything goes together. I appreciate the advice.
