Super S hydraulic fluid on sale at Tractor Supply

Only $25 for 5 gallons. I wonder if it is any good? It's roughly half the price that Walmart charges for UTF.

Its been updated. Wont find 303 on label. Moved spec up to use in 1989 and older. Caught some at Orshelens for 19.99 while back.

Close but not exactly right. Super S is the house brand of Smittys Supply which they claim they manufacture in-house. That is a lofty claim. In any event they distribute a premium UTF as well as the low end 303 product. The 303 prioduct still exists and is still bottom of the barrel.

TSC sale flyer arrived in mail today.

Shows 5 gal/ pails of tractor fluid with "303" on front label for $16.99.

Note: I have not seen this and do not know anything about specifications.

I use only Kubota SUDT2.

I bought 3 pails of that 303 oil about a year ago for ~$20 a pail then asked about it on the Ford board. It was pretty much unanimous there that I did NOT want to use the stuff in any of my tractors.
So to stir the pot a little I innocently asked, "You mean I shouldn't use it in my SOS?"
You would have thought I had cut one loose in church for the grief I got.

I returned it and got my $ back.

Here are the technical data sheets for the two Smitty tractor transmission Fluids. Do not confuse the two as they have vastly different characteristics.

The following is straight from the 303 datasheet. The portion I highlighted in red is pretty clear - it is a low end product and in no way shape or form is it equivalent to Ford M2C-134D.

[i:3b37fc4dd9][b:3b37fc4dd9]SuperTrac 303 Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is recommended for ambient temperatures between +32°F and 104°F (0°C to 40°C). For ambient temperatures outside this range or where a premium tractor hydraulic/transmission oil is required, please use Super S Premium Universal Tractor Hydraulic
Fluid.

[color=red:3b37fc4dd9]Misapplication may cause severe performance problems. 303 Tractor Hydraulic Fluid has not
been recommended by any OEM for model years later than 1974.For equipment built after 1974
requiring multi-functional fluid, use Super S Premium Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid (J20C).[/color:3b37fc4dd9][/b:3b37fc4dd9][/i:3b37fc4dd9]

If you look at the datasheet for the premium fluid you will see it is a typical UTF and a generic equivalent to Ford M2C-134D, Kubota UDT John Deere J20C, IH HyTran, and a host of others. Spend the extra $5-$10 for a premium UTF - it is well worth it even in an older tractor.
