wiring lights

Not much time to work on my tractor lately. But I decided before moving on to the carb and other stuff to completely finish all electrical, that being lights. I know how to wire them, and the headlights are no problem, but my stupid question is, where do I run the wires to the taillight and the work light? The hood has clips to hold them up out of sight and out of the way. Just wondering if there were some sort of clips going to the rear that may have rusted away over the mere 66 years my 8n has been around.

Dennis carpenter has clips of the type that were used on the Jubilee on, that go under the transmission cover bolts. The part number is 352457-S100. They also have clips that hold the wire to the brake rod to go out to the fender. The number for the clip is 354475-S

Cool, I appreciate it. I didn't know Dennis Carpenter made so much stuff for tractors. I used to get a lot from there when I had old 60's Econolines.

Not to hijack the thread, but my taillight wiring is a wreck. Bubba was in there and wires are hanging everywhere....

The parts catalog shows the various components, but not exactly how they look on the tractor. The diagram makes me think the wires go over the transmission and up the inside of the fender. Is there a picture of how the wires are actually routed on the tractor?

hunky-dory, they don't go "up over" the transmission, they come out from under the lower dash then along the side of the transmission at the top then back as I said to the axle. They were, as I said, run in clips that are held by the bolts that hold the transmission lid down. You can look at hundreds of pics on the gallery. The wires were originally in asphalt coated cloth conduit which you can get from Mac's auto parts in Buffalo NY.

As has been said, my jubilee work light wire runs through clips held by the trans top cover bolts. The wire runs through that black protective covering.

BUT . . . it has been on my list since I got the tractor to run that wire along the same route but through a length of small diameter tubing.

I constantly have to be miodful of it when I lift my right foot up and over the tranny to dismount on the left side of the tractor. The toe of my right boot is constantly catching it.

Thanks, showcrop, but I'm looking for the correct way to route the wires. If this is the gallery you reference, http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/gallery.htm, I don't see any pictures that show the wiring to the rear lights. The routing is difficult to understand from the parts diagram. I've looked at all the pictures in my various manuals; the wire loom appears to come out beneath the right side of the dash, but that's all I can find.

They make a plastic covered copper tubing for oil burner lines, it?s a pretty tough coating. I used a length of this to act as conduit for my work light and taillight. It?s been in service for close to five years now without a problem.

How is this?

You should be able to see the clips along the top edge of the transmission that hold the black wire loom and the clips that hold the wire loom to the brake rod in front of the axle.

LIGHTING KITS were optional dealer accessories up to the 600/800 Models, then headlights only were standard factory installed parts. All of the MPC's list the lighting kit components with their part numbers and diagrams. Dennis Carpenter repops all the lights, exact-as-original, and all the hardware needed to wire them. You can find more info on routing the lights at the Ford N Tractor web site -*N- *T -*C.
