Sherman Trans.

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I have made a few posts on the Allis board since my only tractor was a AC "C". Anyway, I have read several places about a Sherman... transmission/ overdrive/ underdrive? What is it, and how can I know that a tractor has it? And how does it operate? If there is another resource on the net somewhere, please guide me.
Thanks.

There are a lot of specification data available on the auxilary transmissions that were marketed for the N's and the Fergies. What they do not clearly explain are the advantages of them. Power, economy and speed are mentioned.
Having used (and admittedly abused) Shermans for 65 years, I can only say experience will tell you what they can and cannot do. I have three N's with Sherman combos, four with Sherman step-ups, two with Hupp combos, one with an F&T and one with a Howard (not working).
Enjoy, have fun, be safe.

Frank,OH I forgot to say that Sherman's were made for some early AC tractors(Very Rare) though even way less plentiful than the ones in the fords

Thanks! That is a very good link. A person just doesn't know what he doesn't know... I will still have to figure out how these various aux trans are installed in the tractor.
Thanks again to all who responded.

They made a step up and a step down sherman for the AC's. Don't think they made the combo for the AC. It is different from the ford ferguson shermans. They are hard to find for the AC. I always look for the short knob stick in front of the main shifter but never seem to find them would like to look at internals

Thanks Kirk. I watched a few of your videos. Thanks for posting them and sharing your knowledge and experience with others. I appreciate it. How many old Ford tractors do you have?
