Spark tester

I need a little more help with the spark tester. I will have no problem setting it for 1/4 inch gap, but I am not sure how/where to ground it. It has a spring-loaded clip with which to make the ground, but nothing near the head seems to be adaptable for that clip. So, my question is: How do I ground the spark tester?

Most anywhere that's steel... If you wanna go high tech get a roll of test lead wire from NAPA #785900 for red # 785902 for black and a pack of alligator clips... Roll you own test leads...

I was hoping for specific instructions. All the nearby steel is coated with paint or heavily rusted. Does that make any
difference?

Scrape. grind, or wire brush a clean bright spot for the ground clip. Virtually any bolt head or nut will work.
