8N yoke and spring

hello all,
I got a little side tracked as I'm waiting on part, so took my broken rocker off. I was curious to how that spring fit together and was considering removing those three bolts:

1. on the first picture, I have a what appears as a wear dent, just above my screwdriver point, pretty significant if indeed a wear grove. It does not appear that a new part has this grove.
Q1. what would have or is causing it. The tractor came with the lift rods but I've never used them.
2. The FO-4 manual, para 152 , description is what I have, spring is not too tight and not too lose.
Q2. on the same picture, I cannot rotate the spring entirely 360 degrees, should I be able to do that?
Q3. is the yoke a male end? I cannot turn it with my own strength, but it sounds like I should be able to turn it as that is how it gets adjusted, so can I just insert a bar and apply some leverage to it to get it to turn?
Q4. If I remove that yoke, will the spring just slide off?
3. On the second picture, where I point the screwdriver, is a hole, I think, in that triangle support item is what the parts book calls it.
Q5. I have three hex bolts it seems, so can I just remove those without hurting or disrupting anything else so I can inspect it?
Q6. The yoke screws into or onto a seat if I', looking at the book correctly. does the plunger screw into that same piece?? will that seat come off if I remove that triangle piece?
thank you.

The yoke has an internal (female) thread.

If you are not using the 3-point hitch, I'm not sure why you want to muck with the yoke, thread, and spring.

Sometimes it's best to resist the alpha male urge telling us "if it ain't broke, let's fix it 'til it is"!

'Course, if you need perfect functionality of the "hitch", there's a WEALTH of knowledge here to walk you through the repair process.

The wear you are talking about on the back of the yoke looks normal to me. I replaced one recently on my 8n and the new one came with a relief spot in that place. I would not remove the yoke if you don’t need to, usually they are very frozen up and can only be removed by first heating with a real torch, not a propane one. There is linkage under the top cover that the yoke rod attaches to that can be broken if too much force is used to turn the yoke, at least that’s what I’ve always been told. My Ford IT manual says the spring should have no slack, but should turn by hand, so it sounds to me like yours is adjusted about right. Good luck

The "dent" looks normal to me.
The yoke is a female threaded part.
Yes, if you remove the yoke the spring will slide off.
As stated, the yoke may come off easily or require a rosebud torch tip.
I've done them both ways.
The three bolts will let you remove the triangle cover, not the rod.
IMHO, your spring is "close enough" to the book's description.

Photo 1 looks normal.

DO NOT apply force attempting to turn the spring plunger unless you wish to remove the top cover to repair the resulting damage.

Thank you Bob, Royse and Dean for your advice. I like to see how things fit together. I wanted to clean underneath the spring area. But if I need to use force, I'll leave it be.

thanks again. cfb
