Gas Shutoff/Engine damage

I have the first carburetor that I have ever needed to shut off when not in use and it got me to thinking...The way a leaking float valve could damage the engine is gasoline getting into the engine oil, right? Whenever I have had any kind of a leak the gas has leaked from the carb connection to the air intake (or through the bottom of the carb?) on to the ground. Are some people's system so liquid tight that the gas will fill the manifold and get in through either the intake or exhaust part of the manifold?

Definitely YES, at least on the intake manifold side.

I'm going to chime in and let you all know that the carb Larry is
talking about is one I rebuilt. It's actually the second one I sent
him. The first one, we struggled with for quite a while until I
replaced the whole dang thing. His concerns were certainly valid.
Thank you for your patience Larry!

The sintered strainer in the bottom of the carb is to let gas out
when they flood. It's there as a part of the design because they
will flood. But the strainer will only let so much out before it has
to go somewhere else.

Also, if you're still having trouble with it, I'm still here.
Let me know what I can do to help. Happy to do so.

I more meant on the air intake side of the carburetor, not the manifold. If the rubber connector that connects the metal pipe from the air cleaner to the carb leaks a little, wouldn't the gas leak on the ground rather than into the engine?

Royse, the carb does not leak visibly, just a spot on the ground after a day or so. I thought this was just considered "the nature of the beast" and is why it should be shut off when not in use. I am planning on getting the electronic shut off you mentioned because I often get off the tractor for "just a minute" and don't get beck on for days.
