9n resistor block

Is there a big difference in the quality of this part when you order one for $14 vs $18 from Steiners. I could take one off the 2n but then I would be short one and also
the one on the 2n does not have the center post on it.

The ballast resistor has 3 terminal posts. The 2N style is different than the later 8N style only by the mounting holes and screws. Most aftermarket parts suppliers sell products made by less than a handful of manufacturers, and most always mark up the price by a percentage. Dennis Carpenter is the only licensed by FORD supplier who actually makes some parts exact-as-the original as he owns a lot of the original Ford tooling as well. The 9N/2N part number is A8NN-12250-B, ABOUT $30 for an original repop but he also sells the TISCO replacement part as well, A8NN-12250-BR, at $17.50. As mentioned, there are a few other cheaper ones made and sold so it's your call. Now, the all important question: Are you replacing it because the old one is defective or are you guessing that it may be?

OK - if your ballast resistor has no center terminal post, that means there is no wiring attached, therefore your wiring cannot be correct. 6V or 12V? Either way, you still need the OEM ballast resistor in the circuit.

I had posted earlier that I had used a test light to confirm that I had power to all of the components. With the key on, I had power back to the resistor, but not to the coil. With a jumper wire across the two terminals, I had power to the coil. I asked, "how do you check the resistor?" and some one replied that' "you already have." I assumed that that meant it needed to be replaced.
So how do I check it?

" So how do I check it?"

If you only have a test light and are checking for continuity, then that's all the checking you are going to do.

If you want to determine the value of the oem ballast resistor, put your multi-meter on ohms and measure across the resistor. It should be .3 ohms cold and 1.7 ohms hot.
