Parts tractor

Found a side distributor 8n on facebook for sale. I'm thinking parts tractor. Looks pretty rough. Appears to have good tires. Looks all there except grille and headlights. Typical "it was running when I parked it". Started out at $620, down to $450 now. Thought about offering $250, but, it's about a 135 miles drive one way. May not be worth the trouble. Tried to put a picture up, but couldn't figure out how. Any thoughts?

Hard to go wrong for $250. The tires would be worth more than that.

Sorta what I thought. He's obviously not having much luck selling it. Unfortunately the rear tires don't quite match, but the ones on mine don't either. And they have lots of cracks and the left has to be
aired up all the time. He may tell me to stuff it if I offer him Two and a half, but that's where I'd have to be. $75 worth of gas to go get it. And most of a day.

Side dist 8N is worth the chase. Your problem is your a bit of a distance away from it. 135 miles. If that is round trip, not a problem. Round trip makes it 270, Or about 5 hours of drive time. So now is it worth 5 hours of seat time to get more tractor time?
If my stable wasn't full, I might take a ride.

Try picture again. Sorry

Offering $250 might be a bit low.
It's not too far out of line at $450 and $250 might just insult him. I would offer a little more.
As for the gas to go get it I always consider what my plans are for the thing. If I can use some of the parts myself and sell off the rest I will kind of write off some of the gas as part of the fun of going to pick up a new tractor.
I brought a tractor home a week ago. Paid a couple hundred more for it than I wanted.
Went to Brookings,SD to pick it up then went direct to my property up north and dropped it off and did some mowing with my other tractor then came home the next day. The round trip was probably about 11 hours of driving and most of $200 for gas.
I like road trips.
Seeing a bit of the country and meeting the people I bought it from was worth nearly a tank of gas in itself. I spent over 2 hours with them and really enjoyed myself. I also had a couple of people ask about the tractor while I was fueling and enjoyed meeting them.
Ultimately I still have parts to sell that will let me break even on the cost of the tractor and trip and will get the transmission/rear end I wanted for free. None of it would have happened if I had quibbled over the extra couple hundred $.
In any event, good luck and have fun.

Auction several weeks ago 2 sold for 500.00 each. 1 ran the week before the sale, wouldn't run sale day, other hadn't run for a couple of years, of course neither 1 had any brakes. Both turned over, Both had good looking rubber, both went to the scrap yard. The tin on them was far better looking than the one in the picture.

Saw a pretty nice 9N sell at auction a couple of weeks ago for $500. Had to be jump started but fired right up and had decent tires. Was tempted but wife firmly said no more tractors, and I don't need another 9N for sure.
